I wanted to read this book because I love all the Proper Romance books that I have read before and the idea of Steampunk genre intrigued me. I also am a fan of fairytale retellings, so I thought this would be right up my ally, and it was. However, I did not know much about Steampunk before reading this and I really wish I would have.

I was a little confused with the world/setting in the beginning, but I think this had more to do with my lack of Steampunk knowledge more than anything. It seems that Steampunk is quite a mix of genres, and I never would have known if I hadn’t read this book. Its a fantasy, historical fiction, and sci-fi book mixed along with the romance which I found to be enjoyable and unique. This book can be read as a standalone (which is how I read it), but I really wish I would have read the previous two books in the series beforehand so that I would have had a clearer understanding of the genre.

Overall The Lady in the Coppergate Tower was a good book. I liked the writing and it was a light and easy read. There was a time in the middle when it dragged slightly, but they were on the submersible for a very large portion of the book, and I believe that to be the reason.

I liked the will-they/won’t-they romance, but I did wish there was more romance to the book. It honestly felt more like a thriller/mystery with a sprinkle of romance thrown in. I don’t have any problem with the other genres, so it didn’t bother me, but seeing as it is labeled as a romance, I did expect there to be more of it.

If you are a fan of Steampunk, then I highly recommend this book. It was well written with a good fairytale retelling storyline.
