“Nothing. I lie there and wait, and remind myself over and over that it doesn’t last forever. That there will be another day and after that, yet another day.”
We were liars by e. lockhart

I’m going to be honest- After reading The Wicked King I was in a bit of a reading slump. I don’t know about you, but after reading a 5⭐️ book, I can struggle getting into the next book even if it is good. This is how I was feeling reading The Magnolia Inn. So I decided to pick up We were liars and see if the same thing happened. IT.DID.NOT.
📖”A beautiful and distinguished family. A private island. A brilliant, damaged girl; A passionate, political boy. A group of four friends- The Liars-whose friendship turns destructive. A revolution. An accident. A secret. Lies upon lies. True love. The truth. We were liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel. Read it. And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.”📖

5/5 STARS
This book came out of nowhere and hit me.
(Obviously I don’t mean that in a physical sense 😂)
I mean that this book was not at all what I suspected.
The writing in this book is quite poetic, which may irritate some readers. I thought it added to the beauty of the story. It had me hooked from the first few pages, and I read it in a few hours.
This book to me felt SO real. It depicts greed, jealousy and selfishness so well. It is deep, honest and thought provoking. We Were Liars is about first love, it’s about how life isn’t perfect and families aren’t perfect and how it can be hard to accept that reality. It’s about seeing all the people and things in your life and truly appreciating them in a deeper and more meaningful way.
The twist at the end came out of NOWHERE. I literally didn’t see it coming, which doesn’t happen to me very often, and I love when a book can surprise me. It had me gasping in shock and sobbing my eyes out 😭 (and I mean like REALLY ugly crying).
This was just such a beautiful story.
I HIGHLY recommend this book if you haven’t read it yet. This book now ties with The Wicked King as my favorite book of 2019 so far.
