North to Nara – Amanda Marin

“We’re the sand inside the oyster-something that’s not supposed to be there but that’s become beautiful just the same.”

๐Ÿ“–โ€Neve Hall has always admired the good works of the civil servants who brought prosperity back to the Nation. She especially respects the Sufferersโ€”empaths who anonymously bear othersโ€™ troubles for them. But when Nevesโ€™ assigned empath is abruptly retired, she uncovers certain secrets. Like the identity of her new sufferer, Micah Ward… and the fact that behind his kind smile is a life filled with loneliness and pain. In a world where only a few are allowed the luxury to love, Neve must choose between loyalty to the Nation, or loyalty to her heart.โ€๐Ÿ“–

4.5 STARS

First can I just say… WOW! What a phenomenal debut novel byย Amanda Marin @amarinwritesย ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

I am a big lover of dystopian novels and romance stories and this did a beautiful job of combining the two. This wasnโ€™t your usual dystopianโ€”MC toppling an empireโ€”No, this was a beautiful novel of forbidden love, and the choice to put love above all else, even loyalty to a Nation.

The MCโ€™s were wonderfully written. Neve may have been the voice and main MC, but Micah was the true star of this book. A brilliant character, so full of emotions and compassion. You canโ€™t help but fall in love with him! And Neve is brave, kind and so full of heart.

As for the storyโ€”it was a great story! It started off at a slower pace for the first few chapters (even slow the story was captivating), and then the story went from 0-60 and I could not put the book down! I always know Iโ€™ve found a great story when I stay up a few hours past bedtime to read the whole book! ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚

The only problem I had with the book was the info dumping at the beginning of some of the chapters. I usually like it more when an author โ€œshowsโ€ instead of โ€œtellsโ€. This is the only reason I bumped it down 1/2 a star. Otherwise, it is such a wonderful story, and Iโ€™m going to have a hard time waiting for the rest of the series to come out!

I voluntarily received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
